Dr. Jonathan Shiau, MD
Dr. Shiau was born and raised in Southern California. He attended UC San Diego as a Regent Scholar, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Bioengineering, before continuing his medical education at UCSD School of Medicine, where he earned his MD in 2011. He completed his Urology residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison — routinely ranked among the top 50 Urology programs in the country by U.S. News & World Report.
After residency, Dr. Shiau returned to Southern California and has been practicing Urology in Orange County for the past nine years. As a General Urologist, he treats a wide range of both benign and malignant conditions of the genitourinary system — including BPH, kidney stones, urinary incontinence, UTIs, urologic cancers, low testosterone, and erectile dysfunction.
Dr. Shiau takes genuine pleasure in getting to know his patients personally. That relationship forms the foundation of the therapeutic partnership and allows him to tailor an individualized, multidisciplinary approach to each patient’s health. He is a full believer in the Newport Concierge Physicians model — practicing medicine the way it was intended, and helping patients navigate an increasingly complex healthcare system.
Frustrated by the constraints of conventional practice, Dr. Shiau founded NCP Urology as a division of Newport Concierge Physicians to provide the standard of care he believed every patient deserved: informed, unhurried, and built around a real physician-patient relationship.
Dr. Shiau takes genuine pleasure in getting to know his patients personally. That relationship forms the foundation of the therapeutic partnership and allows him to tailor an individualized, multidisciplinary approach to each patient’s health. Is your office only concierge?
▾Largely, yes. Many of our patients enroll in our concierge program; however, Dr. Shiau does consult at the request of health care professionals within our network on insurance for Urology.
What is Concierge Care?
▾Concierge care is not universally defined within Concierge Medicine. For most programs, it involves easier access to the practice (but not always the physician). Our approach to concierge medicine provides the unrestricted access desired by patients, but also, completely tailored care that is better experienced than described in written word. Schedule a meet and greet with Dr. Shiau to get a better feel for the level of service we provide.
Do I have to see the other doctors or healthcare professionals in your facility?
▾Absolutely not. If you come to us for Urologic care, and you are happy with your other healthcare providers, we will partner with them to improve your Urologic care. We are happy to meet and collaborate with other healthcare professionals this way. Some of our best working relationships are the result of our mutual patients connecting us.
What are your Fees?
▾As part of Newport Concierge Physicians, our fees follow the standard pricing structure outlined here. Please keep in mind, we do offer custom plans which are tailed to fit even more unique individual needs. If you are in doubt, please call us for a consultation.
What insurance do you take?
▾By and large, we are in network with Medicare, Medicare Advantage PPOs and commercial PPO plans. We are also in network with some commercial HMO plans; however, the insurance industry can be confusing. The best way to check eligibility is to chat with us. Our Practice Coordinators can run an eligbility check to clear all doubt prior to your visit or enrollment.
Are you associated with any hospitals
▾Dr. Shiau keeps attending privileges at several local hospitals so that he can admit and care for his patients when they need inpatient care. In addition, our physician team includes in-house hospitalists ready to serve as the attending physician at Hoag Hospital Newport Beach and Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center.
