Jonathan Shiau, M.D.

About Me!

I was born in Monterey Park, California and grew up in the San Gabriel Valley. I graduated from San Marino High School, and then attended college at UC San Diego on a full scholarship, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Bioengineering. From there, I stayed at UCSD School of Medicine for my medical education before traveling to the midwest for residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin. After completing residency training in 2016, I returned to southern California and have been practicing Urology in Orange County ever since.

I was drawn to the field of Urology because of the breadth of the specialty. As a surgical subspecialist, Urologists are able to offer both acute surgical fixes while providing long-term continuity of care for genitourinary concerns. During my practice, I have seen how therapies are most efficacious when individually tailored to the patient. As a result, I joined Newport Concierge Physicians because we share a unified vision for healthcare focused on patient-centered, quality of life-driven care.

What’s Interesting:
After years of hard work, and putting my personal health on the back burner, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. It shouldn’t have been a surprise as I have a very strong family history, but this was still an eye-opening experience. I decided to view this new diagnosis as an opportunity for me to take my own health seriously and practice what I preach. Under the care of my physicians and with a combination of medications and lifestyle changes, I was able to lose 65 lbs and bring my A1c down to a normal range. I now make it a priority to try to eat a well balanced diet and exercise regularly. You can catch me at a group fitness class (F45, Orangetheory, or Yoga Six) or on Peloton a few times a week. If I can do it, anyone can!

What I Focus On:
I have been practicing as a General Urologist for the last 9 years, treating conditions ranging from benign prostatic hyperplasia to kidney stones, urinary incontinence to urinary tract infections, as well as low testosterone and erectile dysfunction. As a General Urologist, we treat a wide variety of both benign and malignant conditions affecting the genitourinary system.

I enjoy spending time getting to know my patients on a personal level. This forms the foundation of our therapeutic partnership and allows me to tailor an individualized, multidisciplinary approach to their health.
